The number of the registered unemployed increased by 4.26% compared to the previous month, according to the data from employment offices.

The number of subsidized unemployed is slightly reduced, while unemployment seems to affect more women and graduates of secondary and higher education.

During January, the registered unemployed amounted to 761,769. Of these, 329,274 are men and 432,495 are women (43.22% and 56.78% respectively).

The age group between 30-54 years of age accounts for 63.16% of the registered unemployed. The age group of under 30 accounts for 27.11% and the age group of over 55 years of age accounts for 9.73%.

The educational level of the secondary-education unemployed accounts for 46.90% of registered individuals, while the educational level of compulsory education (up to ninth grade) accounts for 36.41% of registered unemployment, 15.52% for higher education and 1.17% for those without education.

Greek nationals account for 92.30% of registered unemployment, 5.95% for third country nationals and 1.75% for nationals of EU countries.

The number of the subsidized unemployed is 269235, decreased by 4.632 at a rate of -1.69% compared to last December. From the total of the subsidized unemployed, 57,80% are commonly subsidized, 27.79% are seasonal subsidies, 3.36% are subsidized in building or technical occupations, 0.46% are subsidized teachers.

Recruitment announcements totaled 43856, a decrease of 1.66% compared to last month and reduced by 11.63% compared to January 2011. Redundancies (complaints against indefinite contractual agreements), amounted to 28565 (increased by 1.80% over the previous month and decreased by 6.29% compared to January 2011) while redundancies through the end of fixed contractual agreements amount to 21503 (reduced by 11.21% compared to last month and reduced by 15.77% compared to January 2011) and willing redundancies reached 20326 (increased by 12.15% compared to last month and reduced by 10.10% compared to last January.

All the complaints against permanent and fixed contracts amounted to 50068, 42.95% of which is due to withdrawals from the labor market due to fixed-term contracts. This figure is reduced by 4.23% from previous December and reduced by 10.61% compared to last January.

From the above, there is a reduction of wage employment of 26538 versus -25802 in December and -28996 in January 2011.
